The Bywong Gold Mining Town is an educational attraction set on the site of an actual mining town that existed between the years of 1895 and 1906. Today the time capsule experience allows visitors to see the many hardships of the early settlers of Australia and how much work and courage went into creating the country that is in existence today.
The village is composed of a picnic area with toilets and a main street. Along the main street are a panning area, blacksmith’s shop, the well, and a number of other smaller buildings. The Mining Compound offers a large cut area that sports the stamp mill, a hand operated battery, and the Aid Shaft.
Bywong Town is an intriguing place to visit and worth the admittance fee as it offers modern tourists a preserved replica of what life was like during the early settler times of Australia more than a century ago.
Records are not specific but show that there was not a large amount taken from the area, which leads some to believe the reef is still in existence.
Throughout the visit tour guides are offered that will structure your experience based on your personal interests with topic areas that include geology, social history, blacksmithing, mining, and bush building techniques.
